About me
SPREAD A LITTLE ART AROUND!
Have you heard the news? I'm a giclée printer as well as an artist now. I've been training on Adobe PhotoShop, the Roland HiFi Jet Wide-Format Printer, and I recently took some courses in small business developement through the Small Business Development Center. The class helped me focus on my mission, or what I want to accomplish with my business. I realized that I want to expose as many people as I can to the benefits of artwork. I want to share the beauty, culture, and stress relief found in a good piece of art. I'm a current member of The Orangeburg League of the Arts and Artists Round Table
I've painted from photo’s in my studio for many years. I love applying layers of glazes to bring a transluscent quality to my paintings. I frequently focus on architectural elements in the manner of Edward Hopper, a favorite artist of mine. These paintings call up feelings of nostalgia and isolation.
After growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC, rural South Carolina was a relief from hectic city life. I live in an area surrounded by farms, ranches and forests that is such a contrast to me that the landscape calls on me to paint it. I decided that the best way to portray these rustic landscapes is with an impressionistic technique I learned from Ilona Royce-Smithkin of the PBS shows, ‘Ilona’s Palette’ and ‘Painting with Ilona'.
I paint these landscapes out of doors or “en plein air” to let me catch the feel of the fresh air and open sky. I find the rich, sumptuous texture of oil paints appealing as a medium because they let me portray deep shadows as well as the many moods of light. I want to share nature in its purest form with you; the sense of peace that the forest can bring to a person, the quiet calm of a seldom traveled dirt road or the serenity of the sunlight shining through the trees.
I hope that I’m successful in bringing these feelings to you through my artwork. My painting style is influenced by Monet and VanGogh, you’ll find my style somewhere in between. I hope my artwork will help you treasure the beauty of the countryside as I do.
